Candidate Stands Out in Delegate Crowd, Wears Funny Hat

Candidate for state delegate Rusty Sprague was feeling lost in a crowded field of candidates.  Searching for a way to differentiate himself, he finally settled on a funny hat, the funniest one he could find.

“I suppose I could’ve refused PAC money, but someone was already doing that,” said Sprague.  “I think it says a lot about me that people wouldn’t otherwise realize.”

The hat is a top hat that Sprague modified to add pom-poms, fringes, and other decorative items.  “No one else has a hat just like it,” he explained.  “It has something for everyone, just like my platform.”

At a recent media event, the candidates were so numerous, they barely fit in the buffet line.  When reporters asked them to define themselves, candidate Roger Nardo said, “My khakis have cuffs; his don’t.”

The man he pointed to, Oliver Wren, said, “Sure, but my tie is striped.  No one else’s tie is striped.”

Struggling to be heard over the din of buzzing Blackberries was Charles Glenn: “Stick to the issues! I don’t take PAC money!”

“I play Pac-Man,” candidate Gina Reefson interjected.

But now, when Sprague dons his hat, people stand up and take notice.  “A reporter asked me if the goldfish stood for my maverick status or signaled flexibility on immigration laws.”

“My hat is an inclusive hat,” he replied.  “There’s room under it for everyone.”
